Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was born on July 12, 1998, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and is the son of Shai Gilgeous. His basketball journey began in Canada before he moved to the United States to attend Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Tennessee.
He later played college basketball at the University of Kentucky, where he had a standout freshman season. In 2018, he was selected 11th overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA Draft and was subsequently traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
